Google Calendar

January 19, 2010

So it might look a little messy when I cram everything into one embed, but over the last little while I've assembled a collection of Google Calendars for the Vancouver 2010 Games. These Calendars provide the schedules and start times for all events...either sepately or together!

If you think you might be able to find a use for them, feel free to steal...

Also, don't forget to check out my Google Earth venue map, which can be found here.

Actually, when you create an event in a calendar using the Toronto time zone but you time the events using the Vancouver times, and a person using a Vancouver time zone subscribes, Google Calendar automatically moves the events 3 hours back. It effectively renders the calendars useless for everyone if you think about it.

An event that starts at 12 in Vancouver, listed at 12 in a Toronto-based calendar, actually plays at 3pm for those in Toronto, yet is listed at 9am for people for people in Vancouver.

This is a great effort that has failed in its execution. If you can, it would be good to change the time zones of all of the above calendars to Pacific, making sure the event are listed in their local time. OR, keep the Toronto time zone, and change each event to 3 hours forward, so it lists correctly for anyone who subscribes.

Thank you soooo much for setting this up. This is a reallllly good set of calendars, but there's no point in subscribing until they are able to show up correctly in people's calendars.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see what I can do about getting the time zone's corrected..

I think I've got the timezone issue resolved on the 'Individual' calendars. I'll try to fix up the 'All Events' calendar tomorrow.

That's so nice of you to fix it. I know how much work goes into making an event calendar of this magnitude, so pat yourself on the back for this one! Thanks again for fixing the time zones!

Thanks...no point in posting them unless they are correct.

Updated the 'All Events' sheet...so I think its all fixed.

Oh man, this is fantastic! I've already populated my Calendar with everything. Thank you so much for the hard work! Now I can quickly see when we're curling and playing hockey. SWEET!

Thank you very much Scott! You saved me a lot of work. Now my only job is stay awake since all events (speed skating in particular) are during nighttime over here in The Netherlands...
